Why people leave buzzing

Why people leave buzzing

Cold water triggers a big rise in noradrenaline, behind that alert, clear-headed feeling. Research suggests around 11 minutes of cold a week, alongside sauna, is enough to benefit.

Safety first

We health-screen every guest, carry our own insurance and are trained in cold water safety. Cold water isn't for everyone, including some heart conditions and pregnancy, so we'll talk it through first.

What to expect in the cold

Your first cold water session, step by step

  1. Breathe first. Calm breathing on dry land to prepare your body and mind.
  2. Enter gradually. Guided entry at your pace, usually one to three minutes. You choose when to get out.
  3. Warm up properly. Dress quickly, move gently and have a warm drink. A sauna is often close by.
  4. Bring: swimwear, a warm hat, gloves or neoprene socks if you have them, a towel, warm layers and a hot drink.
  5. Safety: I'm with you throughout, and breath holds are never practised in or near water.
